In a stunning development, members of the AIADMK have unanimously ousted general secretary VK Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran from the party.
Speaking to reporters after a party meeting held at Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami’s residence concluded, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister D Jayakumar stated that Sasikala and Dinakaran will be kept away from the AIADMK and its government.
“We had a discussion at the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s residence regarding the party and the government. We want Amma’s government to continue. Ministers have revolted against Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran. The entire party and leaders feel that Sasikala’s family should be sidelined. So we have decided to sideline Sasikala and family,” Jayakumar said.
With the ouster of Sasikala and Dinakaran, the merger of the two rival AIADMK factions – the O Panneerselvam led faction and the other faction led by Chief Minister E Panalniswamy group – is likely to take place.
When asked about who would lead the party, Jayakumar stated that a committee will be formed to lead the AIADMK and O Panneerselvam is likely to play a major role.
Meanwhile, members from the Panneerselvam camp have stated that they want OPS to take charge as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Addressing a press conference earlier on Tuesday, O Panneerselvam had put pre-conditions before the Palaniswamy camp that the merger could happen only if Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran were removed from the party.
Disquiet was brewing in Tamil Nadu’s ruling party ever since Income Tax officials raided Health Minister Vijayabaskar’s premises and seized evidence of bribing voters for the bypoll to R K Nagar assembly seat.
